In Our Twenty's: Keys that Every Young Woman Needs

Often times we, and when I say we I mean young women, tend to create or attempt to create a space for each person that we care about. What we don't always take into account is the fact that some people don't want to be there and some don't deserve a seat on our plane.

A few days ago I saw this (above) clip on twitter and it really hit close to home and really made me realize that I needed to think about who I wanted to be in my life and why. I realized that I had been spending too much time chasing, holding on for dear life to people that only wanted to be around when it was convenient for them and allowing some of the others to waste my time, and at their own requests at that. We tend to undervalue our own time because of the love that we have for others but I can't speak for us all.

I say this to say that, in our twenties we should be crafting ourselves, not others. We are a mold that can be built or broken but our fate is in our own hands. Prior to now, we were using our time to what we were EXPECTED to do. Now is when we make mistakes, now is when we choose not to fear the way the world might see us based on our mistakes. Instead, we should making those mistakes and moving past them in whatever way we see fit.

Master a craft, travel the world. Adopt a puppy if that makes you happy. The point is, if you're not already married, make the choice to live your twenties for you. My mother constantly encourages me to do whatever I want to do. Don't say "I can't" and don't take no for an answer. The world is our oyster, it's time that we indulge in all that it has to offer.
